Marathon Fellowship is a multi-generational group focused on Bible study, prayer, fellowship, and serving others—both at Stonebriar Community Church. and through missions around the world. We meet weekly on Sundays at 10:45 a.m. in B219. Our current teacher is Dr. Stephen Kim, Professor of Bible Exposition at Dallas Theological Seminary. Previous teachers have included Dr. Stanley Toussaint, Wayne Stiles, and Rhome van Dyck among other guests.
Wayne Stiles teaches from the life of Joseph in Genesis 37 that God’s Word may seem to contradict our circumstances or expectations. God may remove us from our preferred situation in order to deepen our walk with Him. God often hides the details of His plan so that we trust Him—not the plan.
The phrase I shall not want is usually understood in a material sense, I will lack nothing. But the deeper meaning is that the Lord is enough for me, I am fully satisfied in Him. I want nothing else, nothing more.
Wayne Stiles teaches from Luke 2:52 that growing like Jesus includes both our spiritual and social lives. It all boils down to priorities and love for God as the basis of our daily activities—and fulfillment.
Wayne Stiles teaches from Luke 2:52 that growing like Jesus includes both our intellectual and physical health. Learning God’s Word gives us a stronger trust in the Lord and a confidence in the truth—and committing to our physical health is an act of worship.
Vladimir Pikman shares his journey from Jewish atheism in Kyiv to faith in Jesus, illustrating how the gospel is the power of God for salvation. Drawing on Romans 1:16, he emphasizes that the good news is meant for the Jew first and also for the Gentile, calling believers to speak, live, and share the gospel faithfully.
Christmas did not bring peace on earth, but it started war in heaven and war on earth (Revelation 12:1-9). But the baby born two thousand years ago accomplished four things (Revelation 12:10-11):
The plan of salvation was accomplished.
The Kingdom of Christ assured.
The evil will finally be destroyed. and
Until then the people of God will live by faith and stand firm no matter what happens.
Wayne Stiles teaches from Ruth chapter 4 that sometimes we can’t see God’s faithfulness in our lives until it’s upon us. His gift of perspective allows to take by faith today God’s goodness we will see tomorrow.
Wayne Stiles teaches from Ruth chapters 2-3 that our so-called “chances” in life are really God’s choices. Every good opportunity is not a call from God, but the Lord urges us to wait for His best.
Wayne Stiles teaches from the book of Ruth chapter 1 that when God disappoints us, we need to be honest with God about our feelings and to look for His blessings hiding in plain sight.
Wayne Stiles teaches from the book of Revelation that we can begin again with God. The images of Revelation highlight God’s ultimate desire to bless Israel and the Church—all who will come to Him through Jesus Christ.
