Scripture: Hebrews 7
Dr. Stephen Kim continues his series of classes from Hebrews, “The Superiority of Jesus Christ”, focusing on chapter 7 and the high priest, Melchizedek.
Lesson Outline
- Jesus’ priesthood is superior to Aaron’s because Melchizedek was superior to Abraham (Levi) (Hebrews 7:1-10)
- Melchizedek > Abraham (Levi)
- Jesus > Levi (Aaron)
- Jesus’ priesthood > Aaronic priesthood
- Jesus’ priesthood is superior to Aaron’s because the Levitical priesthood was set aside (Hebrews 7:11-19)
- It couldn’t bring perfection (Hebrews 7:11)
- It was associated with the Law (Hebrews 7:12)
- It was based on legal ancestry from Levi (Hebrews 7:13-17)
- It was weak & useless, and made nothing perfect (Hebrews 7:18-19a)
- It didn’t enable people to draw near to God (Hebrews 7:19b)
- Jesus’ priesthood is superior to Aaron’s because He Himself is a better priest (Hebrews 7:20-28)
- He was confirmed by an oath–Ps. 110:4 (Hebrews 7:20-22)
- He lives forever–permanent priesthood (Hebrews 7:23-24)
- He Himself is sinless–He is able to meet our need (Hebrews 7:25-26)
- He offered Himself once for all–therefore, there is no need for daily sacrifice (Hebrews 7:27-28)
